Marlene is a Career Coach, Educational Counsellor, Speaker and Facilitator. Her passion for education and lifelong learning, prompts her to set up S.M.A.R.T. Options Educational Services, engaging for the past 20 years in career guidance coaching, student counseling and women & youth empowerment. Her contribution to women and gender issues, spans from leading seminars, being involved in women's entrepreneurship and women in politics initiatives and serving on European Boards of professional Associations. She takes part in the 1st regional conference “Investing in women as leaders in economic growth”, organized by the US Department of State and mentors young women business owners as part of The European Network of Mentors for Women Entrepreneurs. BPW Cyprus nominates her for the Young Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Growing up in Kyrenia, she experienced conflict early on and lived through the tragic events of the 1974 Turkish invasion, which forced her family to flee. The traumas of war and her dream of re-living in her home town, have her engage in various conflict resolution activities. She co-facilitates in CELT (Creating & Empowering the Leaders of Tomorrow) camps with Boldleaders workshops, trains in “Violent Conflict Mediation” at the U.S. Institute of Peace, Washington DC and takes part in the International Summer School in “ Peace, Order and Conflict in Times of Crisis-Theory and Practice”, organized by the EU Consortium for Political Research and the Intl Association of Peace and Conflict Studies. Keen to offer alternatives to typical forms of education but also to cultivate a mentality of peaceful co-existence, she designs the “Smart Young Achievers©” - Build your life as you want it” series of workshops, offering the 1st workshop in "Leadership skills”, in collaboration with Boldleaders. She lives in Nicosia and is mother to Daphne, a marketeer based in London and Boldleader graduate, 2003 & 2008 and to Eleni, a photojournalist and blogger.
